Business Development Associate UK

Company & Role Description

Tanner Pharma Group (TPG) designs and manages a range of Managed Access Programs, which allow pharmaceutical companies to bring critical drugs to patients with high un-met need years before conventional regulatory approval.

As a Business Develop Associate, you will work within the Business Development team of TPG’s fast-growing Managed Access Program division (TannerMAP). There, you will play a key role in the full range of typical BD activities: Search strategy, company/disease/product research, financial/bid analysis, prospecting, outreach, pitching, contracting, and ultimately the smooth handover of awarded business to the Program Management Team. The typical week is a mix of internal planning and external engagement, with those external interactions being typically with Medical Affairs Leads, Clinical Trial Leads, Tech Ops Leads, CMOs, CCO, COOs, CEOs and BD leads from some of the smallest emerging biotechnology companies in the world to some of the largest global pharmaceutical companies.

Tanner Pharma has a friendly, supportive, and collaborative environment where people can learn fast, and also produce without hindrance or bureaucracy. The position reports to TannerMAP’s EVP of Business Development.

In short, Managed Access Programs are a key component of the process of bringing innovative drugs to patients and health systems, and this is amazing job for anyone who wants to learn about both Business Development and the global biopharmaceutical industry.

Role Accountabilities
Each week will be different, but will include:

  • Analyzing the global landscape of biopharma companies and their products, with the goal of identifying opportunities for Managed Access Programs.
  • Developing clever ways (through process improvement, analytical techniques, your intuition, etc.) to continually optimize and fine-tune our search strategy.
  • Educating yourself (with the help of your supervisor and your colleagues) on clinical trial strategy, disease areas, health care systems, regulatory frameworks, compliance requirements, drug packaging (and 1,000 other things) so that you can conduct and communicate insight-rich research in advance of pitch calls, and then handle ongoing support through the evaluation and negotiation processes.
  • Developing your selling skills, and then scheduling (and participating in) pitches and follow-ups. (The amount you pitch – and the autonomy you have – is limited only by how knowledgeable you become and how good you become at pitching!)
  • Continually improving pitch presentations and proposals.
  • Attending meetings, conferences, and events to identify prospects and to touch base with existing clients.

Desired Candidate Profile & Capabilities
Required:

  • You are self-motivated with a passion for learning and ability to recognize when something needs to be done without needing to be told what to do.
  • You are easy to work with, and you get stuff done.
  • You have high attention to detail and a high standard for quality work products.
  • You have the ability to work on multiple tasks and activities at once, and you have the flexibility to re-prioritize when necessary.
  • You can work solo for seven hours straight, and then jump straight onto an important pitch call with a bunch of strangers, and you are comfortable and motivated in both environments.
  • You have people skills and street smarts: You instinctively try to understand people’s unspoken motivations. You can hear “the question behind the question.”
  • You have either a relevant degree (biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, etc.) or you have a few years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and preferably both.
  • You should have outstanding strength in PowerPoint and Excel, or you should be prepared to put in the work to develop this strength very quickly.
  • Overall, you are fascinated by the business of bringing important drugs to patients, and you are confident enough to want to have some impact on that business.
  • Within one hour’s commute of London.
