Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Tanner Pharma Group UK is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2045.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2023
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
Some deliveries were blind and therefore no data was available as to the final location. We assumed a 100km final leg of the journey in this case. Furthermore, only data regarding the number of units of delivery was available; not the weight delivered. As we deliver a diverse range of products this was problematic. We therefore used an average item weight of 0.025kg. Additionally, many products require temperature control. This increases the weight of packaging significantly. We therefore modelled the weight of packaging in addition to the product itself based on the weight of different volumes of temperature-controlled boxes.

Current Emissions Reporting

Our current emissions reporting year is the same period as our base year as this is our first Carbon Reduction Plan.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We commit to reducing scope 1, 2 and this subset of scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030 from a 2023 baseline.

We commit to reducing scope 1, 2 and this subset of scope 3 emissions by 90% by the net zero target year 2045 from a 2023 baseline with the remaining 10% removed with high quality carbon removals.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

As this is the first time Tanner Pharma UK Limited is measuring its carbon emissions, we are in the initial stages of developing and implementing a comprehensive carbon reduction strategy. Some actions were completed prior to us measuring our base year, including the installation of LED lighting in our UK office, assessing our UK office heating system and installing bike racks at our UK office.

Below are the key strategies and initiatives we plan to undertake to reduce our carbon footprint:

Business Travel

  • Virtual Meetings: We will, where possible and logical, reduce the need for business travel by increasing the use of virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.
  • Travel Policies: We will update our travel policies to encourage and prioritise rail travel over air travel for domestic trips and promote the use of public transportation when possible.

Third-Party Transportation and Logistics

  • Collaboration with Suppliers: We will engage with our third-party logistics providers to encourage the adoption of low-emission vehicles and more efficient logistics practices.
  • Sustainable Packaging: We will reduce the environmental impact of our logistics by minimising packaging materials and using sustainable alternatives where possible and practical, ensuring the efficacy of our medicines is maintained.

Employee Commuting

  • Flexible Working: We will promote remote working and flexible working hours to reduce the frequency and distance of employee commutes.
  • Public Transport Incentives: We will provide incentives such as subsidised public transportation passes or carpooling schemes to encourage employees to use greener commuting options.
  • Cycling and Walking: We will support active commuting by installing shower facilities at our offices and ongoing participating in cycle-to-work schemes.

General Initiatives

  • Energy Efficiency: We will conduct energy audits of our facilities and implement energy-saving measures such as improving insulation and installing motion-sensitive lighting in low-traffic areas.
  • Renewable Energy: We will transition a significant portion of our energy consumption to renewable sources like wind and solar power.
  • Waste Management: We will implement comprehensive waste reduction and recycling programs to minimise waste sent to landfill and promote circular economy principles.

These strategies form the foundation of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. We are dedicated to continuously monitoring our progress and exploring new opportunities to reduce our environmental impact.
